Emergency Service & Out of Hours Care

What has been the routine

At the current time we have a vet and a nurse 'on call' outside of our normal working hours (6.30pm-8am Monday to Friday and 1pm Saturday 8am Monday). The staff are usually at home and not working in the practice. They attend the practice when required. This means that the vets and nurses can regularly work in excess of 80 hours per week; and we are sure that you appreciate if a vet has to deal with a middle of the night emergency it impacts on their ability to provide your pet with best patient care the next day due to lack of sleep.

What is changing?

From Monday 1st April 2019 we are altering our system.

I have decided to partner with Vets Now who specialise in providing dedicated out of hours care at nights and weekends. Vets Now operate emergency clinics in Stoke, Birmingham, Telford and Derby and we know they will provide you with an excellent service. Although Stoke is the most convenient centre for Rugeley, our clients may use whichever of the Emergency Clinics that is closest.

We believe that working alongside Vets Now will raise the quality of service that we provide to you and your pet. The clinic is fully staffed by vets and nurses who only work Out of Hours and therefore they are fresh and available to deal with emergencies at night, weekends and Bank Holidays.

Their staff regularly attend training in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Procedures and we think of them as the pet equivalent of the Accident and Emergency department of a hospital.

Our In-Patient care will remain at Number 1 Vets and be monitored by our staff as I feel this is the best option for medically compromised patients.
